Deepening Our Listening Skills - Session 2: Listening Through Our Bodies (February 20, 2027)
With Carol Martin Johnson
February 20, 2027
This is the second of three workshops focusing on sharpening our ability to listen deeply. To register for all three, please visit: Deepening Our Listening Skills – All 3 Sessions.
We are surrounded by noise both inside of us, and outside of us. Many things are competing for our attention. It is easy to just stop listening to ourselves, each other and the more-than-human world around us. Listening deeply is a way to honor the ways the Divine is reaching out to us. It is planting seeds for receiving wisdom that is so needed in today’s struggling world. Deep listening is not just listening with one’s ears, but with one’s whole being.
Session 2: Listening through our Bodies (February 20, 2027)
Most of what we experience day to day is experienced through our eyes. Some estimate that we use our eyes 80% of the time as we navigate our world. Interestingly, researchers* also find that we listen for what we already know and what we know is what our culture tells us is important, but there is so much more! This session will focus on using more of our senses and our body to pay attention and listen in new ways. We will listen for what we don’t expect and pay attention to what surprises us!
Each session will begin with a time of centering using breathwork, poetry and music to help us ground and center ourselves. We will have opportunity to spend time outside in nature, where we will address for the weather and experience the change in seasons. We will also have space inside to gather and to journal.
Each session will end with the opportunity to listen and to share what we have heard, noticed, and wondered about from our experience. It is a profound experience to listen deeply and also profound to be listened to in a deep way. It can help us find words for and validate our own unique experience.
